Garden

A small meadow that is planted fresh each time you open it, and grows according to the air around you.

Using the Garden#

Open the second tile on the home screen. A new set of three to five plants sprouts, grows and opens its flowers over a couple of seconds, then sways in the wind.

ControlWhat it does
Touch the screenFlick the stems near your finger. Closer stems bend more, then spring back.
APlant a brand-new meadow and watch it bloom again.
BBack to the home screen.
Half a second in: buds still opening.
Fully bloomed in clean air.
Stems bending away from a tap.
A plants a different meadow.

Each visit plants a new meadow.

The flowers#

Normal plants are sunflowers, peonies, eucalyptus and vanda orchids, on green stems. In polluted air some plants come up strange: dark, purple-stemmed variants, including the gazer, which only grows in bad air.

How the air changes it#

The Garden reads the air when you open it and each time you press A.

  • Strange flowers appear once the worst of CO2, VOC and NOx is poor (roughly CO2 above 1200 ppm, a VOC index above 200 or a NOx index above 120). The worse the air, the more likely each plant is strange, up to one in two.
  • Bloom speed goes up with CO2 and down with VOC and NOx.
  • Plant size follows the same mix, between half and 1.2 times normal size.
  • Swelling. While the Garden is open, plants grow a little (up to 10% per 1000 ppm) if CO2 rises from where it was when you came in.
Polluted air: tall, fast-blooming plants.
Strange flowers: spiky heads on dark purple stems.

To see the effect of a change in air, close the Garden and open it again, or press A.
