Research Mode

Overview

The μCritAir supports a research-only mode which does not allow access to the game or any on-device insight into air quality metrics. These restrictions are in place in order to comply with IRB guidelines. While in research mode, the μCritAir measures and logs air quality as normal but does not display it to the user. Logs taken in research mode can still be exported to an SD card in CSV format.

Main Screen

The main sceen is all that a user sees in research mode. It provides insight into measurement timing, battery level, and researcher contact information. If you see the battery indicator drop below 3 bars, please immediately plug your device in. A healthy battery level is essential to the operation of your μCritAir while it is in research mode.

E-Paper Display

In research mode, the e-paper display shows nothing more than character art and the device's given name.

The developer menu offers an array of options for managing the device's research-mode behaviour. These options may be useful before and after research is conducted, but can pose serious risk to data integrity while research is underway. If for some reason you feel that you must access the developer menu, please contact a member of the μCritAir team.
